Therapeutic approach

Clients describe me as warm, curious, collaborative, and nonjudgmental.

My approach to therapy is integrative and relational.

Relational

I pay attention to the therapeutic relationship itself as a mechanism for change and opportunity to learn about how you relate to others in your life. The therapeutic relationship presents a unique opportunity to co-create a safe space for honest discussion of interpersonal patterns as they emerge in our work together.

Integrative

I have deep knowledge in the theoretical foundations of human behavior, trauma, and evidence-based psychological interventions. I utilize both contemporary psychodynamic interventions (how early childhood experiences and significant life events shape present behavior and emotional responses) and cognitive and behavioral strategies (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy). This approach allows us to uncover the root of the problem, develop new skills and strategies, and create sustainable change.

Affirming, validating, and holistic trauma treatment to create lasting change - and a more fulfilling and joyful life.

About Me

I believe most humans are doing the best they can with what they have. It is not your fault if the tools you were given are no longer working, but it is your responsibility to develop new tools if you want to have a different experience now. I know how hard it is to find a therapist and even harder to be vulnerable and open up about the most painful and sensitive areas of our lives. You deserve a safe, respectful, and gentle space to share your experiences at your own pace. I love sharing information from the scientific literature to help you learn about your body, make sense of your symptoms, depathologize, and normalize your experiences. I aim to destigmatize and reduce shame around our bodies, sex, and mental health. I am honored to help people find the joy, connection, and worthiness they deserve.

Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy baking for friends and family, walking as much as possible, trying new restaurants, combating decades of perfectionism with novel hobbies (ever tried handbuilding pottery!?), and yoga.

 FAQs

  • No. I am not in-network with any insurance plans and am considered an “out-of-network” provider. However, upon request, I can provide a superbill to be submitted for out-of-network coverage. Your insurance company may reimburse anywhere from 30-80% of treatment costs.

If you have specific questions about your benefits, please contact your insurance company directly. Here are some questions to ask:

Do I have out-of-network benefits for psychotherapy?

What is my deductible and what has been met so far this year?

What percent of my session rate will be reimbursed?

Is approval required from my primary care physician?

  • Good question. I think about this all the time and did not come to this decision lightly. Unfortunately, insurance companies only reimburse a small percentage of the costs of therapy. The specific work that I do, sex and couples therapy, is usually not covered by most insurance companies at all. To utilize insurance for sex and couples therapy, a documented DSM diagnosis is required. In my experience, most folks I work with for sex and relationship concerns do not fit neatly into a diagnostic code despite their high levels of distress and dysfunction.

More importantly, I would rather spend all of my time focusing on YOU, not on administrative paperwork and insurance requirements. My fees support the sustainability of my work and my ability to show up as my best psychologist self for each and every client. I am happy to answer any questions and support you in using your out of network insurance benefits to the fullest.

    • Initial assessment & intake (90 mins): $350

    • Return session (50 mins): $250

  • Working with an out-of-network provider can allow for more privacy, flexibility, and personalized treatment. Insurance requires a documented diagnosis and can mandate aspects of therapy such as the type or length of treatment.

Your concerns and reasons for seeking therapy are valid and deserve treatment even if they do not fit into a diagnostic box in the DSM. As an out-of-network provider I am empowered to take a less pathologizing approach and to create a holistic treatment plan that is all about you.

  • Yes! I am able to offer sliding scale fees for folks with limited financial ability when possible. Please indicate in your contact message if you would like to discuss my sliding scale policy in more detail. Limited spaces are available.

  • During our consultation we will discuss your goals, expectations, and primary reasons for seeking therapy. I will ask you about any previous experiences with therapy, if applicable, and give you a change to ask me any questions you might have about my therapy process and style.

  • If, during our consultation, my clinical services seem like a good fit, then we can schedule your initial intake session during our call. Effective therapy is an investment of your time and money. If you want time to make that decision, I will provide my direct contact information and you can simply reach out to me when you are ready to schedule.

  • Therapy is a significant investment of your time, energy, and money. Ultimately, my goal is to work myself out of a job so that you’re no longer in therapy. To do this, I take our work seriously, prepare for our sessions, and collaborate efficiently to support your progress.

Length of treatment depends. I offer short term treatment as well as more open-ended therapy. I will support you in making an informed decision about depth and length of therapy as well as how we might measure progress. We will regularly review and discuss your treatment progress, goals, and collaboratively decide and plan when treatment will end.

  • I am based in Chicago and licensed in the state of Illinois. I also have PSYPACT, an authorization to practice interjurisdictional telepsychology in over 40 states. Clinical services are available virtually to residents of any PSYPACT state via secure and HIPAA compliant video platform. I am happy to talk more about the pros and cons of telehealth to help you make an informed decision about your care.

  • Cancellations or requests to reschedule must be made 24 hours in advance of your scheduled appointment. If you are unable to keep your appointment for any reason, I require at least 24-hour advance notice or you will be charged the full session fee.

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
